Doris M. Kerrins, age 93 years, died peacefully on Saturday, December 9, 2017, in the United Hospice Service residence of Marlette Regional Hospital after a brief struggle with terminal cancer.

Doris was the eldest of seven children and is survived by two younger sisters and a brother as well as four of five living children, Kathryn Kerrins, Mark Kerrins, Cyndi O’Morrow and Stephanie Kerrins-Michalik, plus nine grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Kerrins was a life resident of Peck, and was an advocate of education and learning her entire life. As young woman she achieved a Bachelor of Arts degree from Central Michigan University. Doris spent many evenings attending night school as well as weekend classes ultimately achieving her Masters of Arts Degree with her thesis in Special Education, and in addition, a Specialist degree in Learning Disabilities. She was truly a woman who was ahead of her generation and really “did it all”.

She continued her teaching career throughout her life while raising five children and assisting her late husband, John B Kerrins with his Standard/ Amoco Oil business.

Her love of reading and knowledge was passed down to her children. Often, visiting friends would joke the Kerrins clan always had books stuck in their faces. We have our mother to thank for that love.

Funeral services will be held at Holy Family Parish, in Peck. Visitation will begin at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, with a Rosary at 11:30 a.m. at St. John’s Hall, followed by a Catholic Mass at noon. A luncheon will be held at St. John’s Hall, next to the church, following Mass.

The Kerrins family would like to extend our gratitude to all the staff at the United Hospice Service Unit in Marlette for their compassion, tenderness and wonderful care of our mother.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the United Hospice Service, 2770 Main St., PO Box 307, Marlette, MI 48453 in Doris Kerrins name.

Carman Funeral Home in Brown City handled the arrangements.
