Marlette splits in soccer with Harbor Beach, Lakers

The Marlette boys soccer team divided a pair of GTC matches last week, falling to Harbor Beach, 4-1, on Thursday, but defeating Lakers, 3-0, on Monday.

The young Red Raiders squad battled hard against a good Pirates team on Wednesday, leading, 1-0, at halftime.

“We have been getting better each day with younger players really stepping up and learning their positions,” praised Marlette coach Dave Hayden. “I feel this team is progressing well and should be very competitive as the season goes on.

“The thing I really like about this team is that they are constantly working to get better and the fact that they never give up,” Hayden added.

Andrew Webster scored the lone goal against Harbor Beach while Sean Quade had the assist. Keeper Marc Mason turned in eight saves.

In the win over Lakers earlier in the week, Quade scored two goals and Logan Solgat added the other. Quade, Solgat and Kolby Gyomory each had an assist. Mason made three saves.
