Lakers too much for Raiders

MARLETTE – It was just a rough night, overall, for the Marlette Red Raiders.

The EPB Lakers, of the GTC West, brought in their potent offense Friday night and went on to storm past the Raiders, 54-0, in a GTC crossover contest.

“It was a rough night for us,” shrugged Denny Lester, Marlette head coach. “It was 16-0 with two minutes to go in the first half and it got away from us. We struggled tremendously on offense …. their defensive line just dominated the game.

“We will get back to work this week in practice and look to improve,” Lester added.

The Lakers led, 32-0, by halftime. But, two of those scores came late in the second quarter. Preston Warren scored both on runs of 14 and four yards.

In the third quarter, Brennan Wissner, the Laker QB, returned a punt 63 yards for a score and running back Corey Manento went 58 yards for another.

The final Laker TD came on blocked punt, which was recovered by in the end zone by Mason Pasek.

The Lakers piled up 342 yards of offense with 241 coming on the ground.

Marlette finished with -12 yards rushing and 73 yards passing. Brett Havens was the leading receiver for the Raiders with three catches for 62 yards.

Isaiah Perales led the Marlette defense with four solo tackles and four assists.

Marlette, now 1-2 overall, will begin GTC East play this Friday night when they travel to Harbor Beach (2-1).
