Lady Raiders struggling, but improving

OTISVILLE – Wins haven’t been easy to find for a young Marlette volleyball team, so far, this season.

However, Coach Josie Bliss saw good signs in a non-league match at Otisville-Lakeville on Thursday. The Lady Raiders lost in three sets (13-25, 21-25, 14-25), but Bliss found some bright spots.

“We are still trying to be consistent and figuring out who works well together on the court,” said Bliss. “Everyone is really interchangeable, so I am looking for some standouts to start popping out and I think that happened tonight.”

She continued, “We aren’t winning, but we are still improving. Our passing is much better, now we need to work on our hitting …… We lost because of our mistakes in hitting and our serving was really off. These girls make me excited, though, ….. because they have come so far in in two weeks.”

Against O-L, senior Emily Schaub led the Lady Raiders in kills with six while Maggie Mutch and Hannah Bednaryczk combined for 13 assists.

“The ladies don’t get down on themselves, and that’s what I enjoy about them,” added Bliss. “They were down, 11-19, at one point (game two) and we came back, 21-25. It was still a loss, but they kept fighting.”
