Marlette Homecoming rescheduled

MARLETTE — A shortage of referees has forced a change of date for Marlette High School’s varsity football game that was scheduled for Sept. 22. The change has resulted in a new week selected for homecoming week.

According to high school Principal Garnett Kohler, the varsity game against Ubly that was set for Friday, Sept. 22 will now be held on Thursday, Sept. 21. There will also be a home junior varsity football game on Sept. 21 at 4:30 p.m., with the varsity game immediately to follow with a 7 p.m. kickoff time.

“Unfortunately, Friday, September 18-22 was our scheduled homecoming week,” said Kohler. “Since that game needed to be moved to Thursday night (Sept. 21), and in order to preserve school/community traditions, we are going to move the homecoming festivities to an alternate week.

“This fall’s homecoming festivities will be moved to the week of October 9th-October 14th. More details of the week’s activities will follow at a later date as they are planned by the Student Council, but here are a few of the highlights: October 9-13, Spirit Week activities hosted by the Student Council; Oct. 13 – Varsity Football Game vs. Memphis, 7 p.m. kickoff; Oct. 14 – Homecoming Dance.”
