Two area golfers fail to place at MHSAA finals

EAST LANSING – Juniors Ben Jones of Sandusky and Mitch Conley of Brown City both competed in the MHSAA Division 4 individual golf championships last Friday and Saturday.

Playing at Forest Akers East, East Lansing, both players missed earning a medal. The top eight players were awarded medals. Jones placed 17th with a 36-hole score of 168 (85-83). Meanwhile, Conely shot a 180 (87-93).

Brian Jones, Sandusky coach, said it was a good effort from his son, Brian.

“He had an outstanding performance this weekend. He improved from his excellent regional performance. For him to play his best rounds of the season in the state finals shows how much he has matured as a golfer over the last three seasons. His club selection and course management were outstanding.”

The individual state champion in D4 was Austin Fauser of Clinton with a 139 (69-70)

The Division 4 Team Champion was Clarkston- Everest Collegiate with a team total of 629 (319-310)
